National Chili Day – February 26th

chili

With all the cold days in February why not celebrate National Chili Day

The history of chili is not clear, but it may date back to the 1660s  when Sister Mary of Agreda, a Spanish nun had out-of-body experience in which her spirit travelled across the Atlantic to preach Christianity to the Indians and on her return she wrote down the first recipe for chili con carne: chili peppers, venison, onions, and tomatoes.

Why not try some new chili recipes in February or host a chili cook-offSpicy foods can be good for you and if nothing else a nice pot of chili can warm you up on a cold winter day.

Lost socks

lost socksLost socks are a part of doing laundry. I don’t know how it happens or why but I always end up with single socks and I end up keeping them for months in the hopes that I will find it’s match but I never seem too.
Have you ever wondered what, besides throwing them out, you could do with the socks that are missing their match? The library has some great books full of amazing ideas.
Check out some of these great titles and get creative with your lonely socks.

The Pizza Party

These are the close-ups from a family Pizza Party Canadian-style (chez moi!)

The crust is from scratch and these pies were cooked right outside in the cold of winter on our bbq!  Yummy eh!

(half toppings on some, because my kids won’t eat all the same toppings as the grown-ups!)

Inspired by a pizza-shaped cookbook by Carla Bardi, which I noticed that the GPL doesn’t own.  So I used the library’s suggested purchase form to see if we can add it to the collection!

If you know of a great book we don’t already own, here is where you can suggest we buy it!
